Gea

Gea (Ancient Greek Γῆ, Ghḕ), or Gaia (Ionic Greek thus is Homeric Greek Γαῖα Gàia) is, in Greek religion and mythology, the primordial Goddess, thus the Divine strength of the Earth. Suddenly, from Caos Gea emerges, Mother Earth who, on her own, created Uranus (or the sky, the mountains) and Ponto (or the sea). She had many children with Uranus himself, with whom she formed the first divine couple, and with others. She was worshipped both as the guardian of agricolture and of the elements of nature, and as a symbol of maternity and as a feminine element.
Daniele baptised this fabulous floor lamp with the name of the first Greek goddess who represents the beginning of life on Earth.
The harmonic correlation par excellence is the one that makes the golden rectangle happen (golden section), which has been very often used in classical architecture, regarded as the most balanced and harmonious architecture. The correlation between its sides is equal to the irrational number 1,618 (and its reciprocal number 0,618) which is known as “Fibonacci’s number” (Leonardo Fibonacci was a mathematician from Pisa in the 13th century) so often to be found in nature.
One of the most significant examples of golden section is represented by the studies on the geometrical arrangement of leaves and their inflorescence in some plants (phyllotaxis).
During the 19th century the brothers Louis and Auguste Bravais, the first one a botanist and the second one a crystallographer, observed that in some plants the leaves are arranged on the trunk following a vegetative spiral in which the angle between two consecutive leaves is almost constant and of approximately 137,5 degrees. This angle, corresponding to the golden angle, ensures an optimal use of sunlight.
Several other examples have been found in nature, from the petals of flowers, which number often belong to the Fibonacci number, to human anatomical shapes, from the geometry of leaves to starfishes, from the golden spiral in a nautilus to the one in galaxies.
